Claire’s father is a privileged man: handsome, brilliant, the product of an aristocratic lineage and an expensive education, surrounded by a group of devoted friends who would do anything for him. Her protagonists seethe over their knowledge of violence and are fueled by a howling grief for its victims. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. This thriller has more the feel of a Joyce Carol Oates or Joyce Maynard, with significant character development, and the "thrilling" elements often take lesser importance that the experiences and feelings of the characters.

Philby keeps the link between the two narratives tantalisingly out of reach for much of the novel, building the tension while her characters fall deeper into worlds of subterfuge and paranoia. Claire was a young child when someone broke into her home, killed her nanny and brutally attacked her mother.

Clear your day because it is truly unputdownable… If you read one book in your life, make sure it is this! Each time she is notified about a possible sighting of her father, she is tossed back into a cycle of intense rumination leading to dubious machinations. I truly enjoyed this book as I traveled with Clare along the road to finally find this man who is her father.They may also be used to limit the number of times you see an advertisement and measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. The Double Life of Benson Yu is about so many things, but whether or not you will want to come along for the ride is going to depend on whether or not you have a stomach for topics that you certainly can’t discuss at dinnertime. This is a book that says something about the ever-changing narrative of the truth, and it is also a novel about memory and what happens when we try to change or supplant bad things that may have happened to individuals within such flashbacks.
